I carved out a list.
A list of endless places.
Places with mountains, towering trees, and an endless stretch of cacti.
What was I looking for?
I don't know.
Maybe it was myself.
Somewhere along the way, I could no longer hear my own voice.

Then one day, just like that, I found myself driving down a road I had lovingly named the middle-of-nowhere.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something.
A shape.
Not a shape I had ever seen before.
Unsure of what it was, I kept driving.
Then I turned around.
And then again.
Until I finally reached the solitary figure resting in a lonely mesquite tree.
I parked on the side of the dirt road and walked as close to the fence as I could.
One quick photo with my phone...
...and a smile spread across my face.

That single moment changed my life.
At that very instant, I heard a whisper.
Yes...
a whisper.
"You need a camera."
I needed to get closer.
Closer to what would become my endless pursuit—
following owls, birds, hawks, landscapes...
and yes,
wild horses.
The journey to becoming the photographer you are meant to be...
the one who quietly transmits wonder, beauty, and truth into the world...
is uniquely yours.
No one can copy it.
No one.
Because the journey was never about the camera.
It was always about becoming the person who would one day stand behind it.
And that journey is yours.
Yours alone.
